Monique Lhuillier is without a doubt one of the best, and
most sought after, bridal designers in the world. You know when you wear a Monique Lhuillier wedding gown, you
are wearing something special, hand-crafted with love with no detail spared to
ensure that this day is the happiest day of your life.
So when Monique started presenting Prêt-à-Porter collections
several years ago at New York Fashion Week, I was pleased as plum! Seeing her bridal work throughout the
years made me confident that Monique had the goods to create more ready to wear
pieces. Plus, since I have no
immediate need for a wedding dress, it opened up the possibility that I could get
a chance to wear a Monique Lhuillier creation too.
Expectations were high, but boy did she deliver. Season after season, Monique has
stunned the fashion world by weaving bridal elements into her ready to wear
pieces with such success, especially in her use of lace and sequins. This was certainly true with her Spring
2013 collection, shown last week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York
City.
Like her bridal work before her and yet still, her Prêt-à-Porter
looks have such an ease to them, a simple sophistication that is so hard to
achieve. Nothing ever looks overdone
or forced. Even when showing
enough sequins to blind someone, the look is utterly clean.
On the other end of the spectrum, designing Prêt-à-Porter
gives Monique the chance to play with elements not normally available to a
bridal designer. Her use of color,
for example, is exquisite. This
collection showed such a bright ocean color palette that you can tell Monique
is really coming into her own in the world of Prêt-à-Porter.
I’m very much looking forward to when Monique designs more
casual looks as I think she’ll do that beautifully too. Such a joy seeing her work on the
runway…
Best,
Jenny
