Trend Alert

(image from Offbeat Bride)
Something that has been emerging over the last couple years is brides changing up their look before the reception-taking their hair down, amping up the makeup, sometimes even changing into a snazzy cocktail or dancing dress. What a fun surprise for your guests when you appear with a full costume change!

Sometimes it is an issue of having a very heavy formal dress that is not suitable for dancing the night away; sometimes a girl just wants to unleash her inner diva. From the makeup artist's standpoint, of course I think it's fabulous. A demure look for church, and a fun smokey eye or bright lip for the party; maybe even feather lashes-?
I have a bride this Saturday who is wearing both a traditional wedding gown and a sari -so her makeup needs are unique. I will be at her beck and call for over eight hours, not only doing a complete makeup change, but touching the bride and her wedding party up so they look flawless all day.
I cannot wait to post those images!

Drum roll, please!

And the winner of the NARS contest is-AMBER!

Please email me at nancy@brideface.com so I can get you your gift!

By the way, my 6 year old daughter drew the name. It was very cute.

It is ironic that I have been such a lax blogger the week I get a fresh new blog, but vow to get back in the saddle next week. It has been a slow week for pictures.

We do have some amazing events coming up at the new studio, so I have a lot to share on Monday.

Have a fabulous weekend!!!

Voluminous Carbon Black-now in waterproof!

It's the little things. Long one of my very favorite budget mascaras, now the good peeps at L'oreal have made it waterproof so I can use it for weddings. Can't wait until tomorrow to put it on my brides-!

I heart a bride in a birdcage!

(veil, that is.)
Thank you Mike Bresnen for sending over these brilliant images.

Steve Zugelter was on hand with his videography skillz, as was Courtenay Lambert on florals.

Isn't Julie just stunning? I wish more brides would let me do this bold an eye; she wears it sooo well. I was very touched by her and her husband's journey together and wish them great happiness.

Makeup Lesson with Lucky Me!

I recently invited Style Maven, Graphic Artist, Mom, and Author of the uber popular blog
Lucky Me to our work- in- progress new studio for a one on one makeup lesson.

Erin does some fierce monograms and stationery and is a Guru of All Things Wedding.

Erin and and I had been readers of each others' blogs for awhile but had never met so it was fun to finally put a face to the blog!

I checked out all of her makeup that she currently uses and set out to tweak her shades a bit. She has stunning green eyes and usually wears greys. I showed her how coppers with a smoky black liner could pop her eye color even more. She has naturally rosy cheeks, so I used a creme blush in a coral tone to counteract the redness but still give her a healthy glow. I did some very light grooming of her brows; I love that they're full and wanted to keep them that way; I only recommended a slightly tinted brow gel to keep them tamed a bit.She has skin that is too pretty to cover with foundation so I just used a tinted moisturizer for a little glow; nothing that would obscure those pretty freckles. I continued the peachy/coral theme to her lips, which were treated to MAC dazzleglass in "smile".
We talked shop for a couple hours and had a fantastic afternoon, and then she headed out for a romantic date with her hubby!
Thanks Erin for the generous goodies; you rock!

engagement session by TM Photography

I recently discovered these shots of Megan and her fiance and realized I had forgotten to post them, although they are several months old. Their gorgeous wedding was this past weekend, so get ready for some serious wedding porn once Tine is done with them. Isn't she beautiful?

I have been blogged by Lucky Me!

How lucky am I?? If you don't currently have her blog in your google reader, prepare to be addicted.

Check out Lucky Me today for a groovy post about our makeup lesson; we had such a fun afternoon. Thanks Erin!

Hilary Getting Married

You rock Steph Carson.
I don't know why this wedding reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Rachel Getting Married-maybe it was that the wedding took place at the bride's parents' beautiful private home, or that the bride is gorgeous like Rachel.
Her dress was off the hook! She started with a simple halter style sheath and then had an overlay custom made out of gorgeous vintage lace. Fabulous!

Christine, by Penny of brideface

from Christine..."Thanks so much for everything - being a make-up artist myself, I tried I don't know how many looks and I'm glad I got to work with Penny. Everyone looked beautiful and I cried and danced ALL NIGHT and still had my face in one piece - plus or minus a few touch ups of lipstick and concealer = )"

Jill: more beautiful work by Mollie

"Having the opportunity to work with Jill several times was wonderful. Jill and her mother Marjorie were a blast to work with. It was an easy beautiful day thanks to Jill, her mom, and fantastic maid of honor Natalie. It didn't hurt that I got to work with Tine Hofmann and Theresa at Michelle Connelly salon either."

Thank you Tine Hofmann for this beautiful work.

Bridal Studio tease

So we are not quite as far along as I would have liked at the new studio-due to all four of us being swamped with weddings-but it is slowly coming along. I met with our first potential vendor and am excited beyond words. Brides are just gonna eat these things up!!!
Thank you to those who have already had consultations in our new and still quite raw space. We appreciate your patience!
The vibe on Mainstrasse is so different from Madison and I really feel we are part of a neighborhood now. The only downside is we don't wanna go home after work; we want to hang on the square with a beer.
I am far from ready to post any pics-April would die of shame-but soon, I promise!!!!

Gayle, by Mollie of brideface

" Gayle is a super natural, very cool girl--who now has me musically obsessed with Paolo Nutini. If you don't know him you tube him. She and her party were great. At least 3 of the girls had Nance for their weddings, so hopefully I lived up to expectations!!! It was a great time, Amy her hairdresser did amazing, lightening speed work--and it was great to see Amanda Egan again."
-from Mollie

Thank you Amanda Egan for these beautiful images!

Yummy florals by Katie Elfers.
