Hair by Jen Nally

Ellen had some of my favorite pros in the biz-TM Photography, Jennifer Nally( Fantastic Hairstylist!!)and Katie Elfers on florals.

What a lovely family-I felt so at home with them!

If you are looking for on site hairstyling, Jen is your girl. Not only can she do absolutely fierce Red Carpet Hair, she is also an absolute joy to have around you. And it is so important to have happy, positive people around on what can be a stressful day! Not for Ellen though-she was BrideChilla.

my favorite color; Tiffany Blue

Beautiful bride, beautiful dresses and color scheme! Oh, and the bridge cooperated nicely with the theme as well.

These delicious images are courtesy of Pictures by Tracy.

Isn't Danielle smoldering in that top shot? These are the perfect example of how well this makeup look works in both color and in black and white.

People with dimples like this can charm their way into anything!

Spooning-a solution for puffiness

I often assume everyone knows these home remedies, but sometimes they don't, or they doubt their effectiveness. My allergies have been awful the last several days, causing me to wake up looking not unlike Billy Joel.
I keep two spoons in the freezer for such an occasion,so I pop them on for as long as I can take it, and Voila-depuffed! Follow with eye creme.

Moving on up

I will be taking just a few days from emails next week (probably Mon-Wed) to paint the new studio and get moved in, so if you have something to say-email me this week!
We are very excited to move to 610 Mainstrasse and hope you will all pop in for a visit. Kristen, who owns LetterHeads, Ltd., also owns Poeme in Hyde Park, so we will be carrying lots of Poeme goodies at the new shop. we are are investigating unique, possibly had crafted bridal items as well, so if you know of anything out there, please send me a link or shoot me a message.

Say Yes to the Dress

Leslie called this a "mullet" dress; business in the front and party in the back. She will soon be featured on :"Say Yes to the Dress"(I will keep you posted on exactly when; I know there are a lot of fans of the show!)
April of Bluebird Photography outdid herself with this one!
Leslie, her mom, and her husband were just in the new studio last week, checking out their images and laughing their heads off. (I heart them.)

Red Lipped Bride

99.9% of my bridal clients have a trial run session with me prior to the Big Day. I look at pictures of their dress, hair ideas, and inspiration pics of makeup they like. We work together to create a look that suits the mood of the event, their personality, and the gown.

When Valerie met with me, we toyed around between a simply defined eye with a quite bold pink lip vs. a smoky eye with neutral lip. After much deliberation, Valerie decided she preferred the very nude mouth. (To my private disappointment.)
On the day of the wedding, she decided at the very last minute to match her flowers and wear a deep garnet lip, although we hadn't really tried that shade at the trial. It turned the whole look around, brightened her eyes, and gave her an instant look of glamour. I was able to provide her with a sample for touchups (since she had purchased the nude shade for the day) and I just got the images from Daphne Photo Studio today and am absolutely thrilled with the result!

I can't wait to see what 28twenty has in store for her video! Gorge flowers from Katie Elfers.
Valerie was referred to me by two of my former brides, which is always such a high compliment. It's like working with family.

Let's talk lashes.

I am very frequently asked about faux lashes so I felt it warranted it's own blog posting-or maybe a couple?

I prefer to use clusters of lashes (often referred to as "individual" lashes) as opposed to strip lashes for a variety of reasons. I think they look much more like natural lashes, and I feel more confident with their staying power through hours of wear and tears. A strip can look gorgeous from a distance, but can look very obviously fake in a close up shot. And once you start losing a little corner of a strip, it's pretty much all downhill from there. Clusters also feel much more comfortable to the woman who finds strips to be heavy.

The clusters simply beef up the lashes you have-fill in the little gaps in between and make them look very lush and black, yet fluffier than multiple coats of mascara. For a more dramatic look, I use a longer lash, or do multiple rows of clusters. I also use a black glue, which essentially acts as extra definition in the lashline and doesn't leave the telltale shininess of white, clear, or grey glues.

These lashes are trickier to apply than a strip lash and have to be done properly if you want them to last all day and night. On a lash without mascara, they can last for several days-if you are a back sleeper!

Lashes can make your eyes appear larger and brighter and definitely give you that extra pop in photography and from far away. And attention Mothers of the Bride:instant eye lift. No kidding.

And all photographers adore the downcast eye, right?
